SIR, On behalf of the Rotary Club of Innerleithen Walkerburn & Traquair, may I through the courtesy of your columns, thank everyone who supported the Bonfire and Firework Display on November 5 at the Health Centre field, Innerleithen. We were most fortunate with the weather window which yielded a perfect, crisp, wind-free evening to allow the maximum enjoyment of the fireworks.

News of what is surely one of the best bonfire and firework displays in the Borders has travelled far and wide; not only was there a bus of folk from Galashiels, I encountered four people from London who pronounced the evening to have been superb, and suggested they may well return next year!

Special thanks must go to local farmer Gordon Renwick who generously gave us the use of the field once again. Without his generosity we would not have been able to hold this now traditional event. Thanks also to Tom White who dug the turf and backfilled the base for the bonfire.

Finally, we are most indebted to pyrotechnician Rotarian Frank Neville for organising and firing the fireworks. Frank has carried out this role since the first display around 20 years ago, and already the next bonfire is being planned for November 5, 2015!

I am, etc.
