Sir, Thank you for publishing our letter about the Borders bus going to Action Against Trident which took place at Faslane on November 30. Thanks too to those who could not attend but sponsored a seat on the bus.

All ages joined the bus in Lauder, Earlston, Melrose, Galashiels, Innerleithen, Peebles and we picked up a few in Penicuik. For some it was their first experience of seeing the enormity of the Faslane Naval Base with its obscene razor and sensor wire fence.

In stark contrast on the opposite side of the road is the Faslane Peace Camp, established in 1982 and permanently occupied ever since. Over the years the Peace Camp has organised many audacious and creative acts of resistance.

On Sunday we joined with hundreds of others to demand that Trident be disarmed and not replaced. There were calls for the money which would be saved to be used more positively to support the lives of people living and working here rather than adding to and upgrading the stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction in the heart of Scotland.

Protests against Trident have been going on for over 35 years and will be building up as the decision to replace the current Trident system approaches.

The next national day of action will be in George Square, Glasgow on March 28, 2015, followed by a Blockade of the Faslane Naval Base on April 13. For further information check www.scraptrident.org We will provide readers in the Borders with further details as we receive them.

We are, etc.
