SIR, I am writing to you to inform you about a local initiative co-ordinated by a local group in Innerleithen formed in the aftermath of the referendum in a desire to stay active and help (in diverse ways) in our community.

As one of our first initiatives we are currently collecting food and toys to help struggling families this Christmas together with the support of our local Co-op where the donations can be dropped off.

So far the response has been very positive and we have collected a lot of donations including tinned meat, children’s toys, pet food and domestic essentials. All donations are handed over to the Peeblesshire Foodbank for distribution.

We are inspired by the response and grateful for the small reprieve such donations can give to those suffering the most from the austerity measures we currently face.

It is wonderful to see community spirit flourishing in our area and such willingness to help those in need.

I am, etc.
