SIR, It is with regret that the subject of dog fouling in Peebles has to be yet again brought to the attention of your readers.

The locations I would like to bring to your attention are Whitestone and Kerfield Parks. As most residents in Peebles are aware these areas are primarily football pitches.

The areas in question are also public parks, where there is a great deal of dog walking activities. Unfortunately there have been reports from the users of the pitches that they have to regularly lift dog waste from their field of play.

As much as there are designated bins to dispose of dog waste, it appears that not everyone uses them, leaving the dog waste lying where it was deposited.

The Whitestone Park and Kerfield Park areas are used by age groups from Primary Ones up to adult. These pitches are for playing sport, not for dribbling past the waste someone’s dog has left. Dog waste can carry diseases that can affect human beings.

I feel this has to be brought to the attention of your readers, and hopefully anyone using Whitestone or Kerfield to exercise their dog in the future lifts their dogs waste and deposits it in the bins provided. It`s called being responsible.

I am, etc.

Allan McDonald, Secretary Peebles Rovers FC And on behalf of other pitch users
