SIR, I find myself becoming angrier by the minute with those SBC councillors who believe it is acceptable to commit my family and thousands of other families across the Borders to pay off a debt that has not as yet been incurred, but soon will be as a result of their belligerence.

I also find it even more offensive that anyone who challenges this is subject to a programme of bullying and ridicule.

The latest pathetic response to voters and tax payers in our catchment area, to a petition that has been presented on behalf of those who have already registered their disgust at the way this tapestry is to be housed, is for the administration of the council and their toadies to rule that this petition is invalid.

And why is it deemed invalid? A spokesperson for the council says, “...as it is not on the SBC prescribed form and only has a postcode for individuals rather than a full address.” How much of a slap in the face is this to the 4,303 tax payers who put pen to paper?

Having just reported to have thrown away over £2 million of our hard earned cash in a project that was doomed to failure and being informed that the money was well spent, I have decided that the only way to get these people to work for our interests is by taking them head on.

So, here is the challenge to all those who voted to borrow money for a new build when so many other properties in the Borders are already in place and just require modification, prove you are working for us.

I am seeking the support of every council tax payer to help me with this challenge to these people who like spending our money on their own narrow, self-indulgent projects to have every councillor who voted 'Yes’ to this new build in Tweedbank to find 300 voters in their own ward who agree that this is a good idea for the council to get us into debt for the next 30 or more years.

And those who cannot find 300 signatures by July, their deadline for the petition, then we demand your resignation with immediate effect. Now, how fair is that?

I now ask that every Borders resident contacts their councillor by email, on the street or anywhere else they possibly can to make sure your views are plain.

I also urge you to look for the petition being organised by Brian McCrow against the council’s decision, the subject of the original petition.

300 signatures? Easy peasy, eh?

I am, etc.
