WHITEHILL Welfare blasted open the Lowland League by stunning leaders and defending champions Edinburgh City with three late goals.

Sean Martin opened the scoring for Welfare on 50 minutes before City drew level just after the hour through Ross Allum.

East Kilbride leapfrogged Selkirk into second after edging a nine-goal thriller deep in stoppage time.

Former Arbroath striker Jack Smith scored his second of the match in the 93rd minute to make it 5-4 for Billy Ogilvie’s side at the K Park.

Ogilvie said: “That’s the second time this season we’ve won 5-4. It was a game that could have gone either way and when they equalised in injury time we showed a lot of character to come back. It was a tremendous result for us.” Garry O’Connor and Ross Gray both netted early for Selkirk before Sean Winter and Martin McBride responded before the interval.

Smith scored Kilby’s third before former French Under 20s player Florian Moulet equalised for the visitors.

East Kilbride went back in front through another McBride freekick but Jack Hay made it 4-4 in the 91st minute allowing for Smith to nod home the dramatic winner with the final play.
