THE fifth and final round of the National Cross-Country MTB Series took place at the beautiful forest of Cannock Chase, Staffordhire, on Sunday.

The course was long and hilly with a technical rock garden descent that tested the skills of many riders.

Two local riders succeeded on the day with Lucy Grant (PCC) finishing second in the Elite women behind Beth Crumpton (North West MTB) and in front of Polish rider Marlena Drozdziok (Scott Donnybrook Landscape Co).

Lucy´s achievement secured her an overall second position in the National series.

Fourth and fifth women in the Elite podium were Nicky Healy (Mammoth Lifestyle Racing Team) and Annie Simpson (Hope Factory Racing).

In the juvenile girls race, Anna McGorum (PCC), who is the holder of a grant from the Clubsport Tweeddale this season, finished third after Harriet Harnden (Malvern Cycle sport) and Maddie Wadsworth (Beeline) who finished first and second respectively.

Anna was just back from spending three weeks in Japan at the 23rd World Scout Jamboree and not having had a chance to train for a while was pleased to hold on to the third position.
