BIGGAR Rugby Football Club hosts its annual tournament for primary school children on Sunday, September 13, with the help of an award of £4,639 from the Infinis Glenkerie Wind Farm Community Fund.

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the tournament, which benefits visiting teams as well as the club’s own players and importantly encourages primary school rugby in the area.

The Infinis Glenkerie Community Fund has also supported the club’s 12 youth teams with funding for new training equipment, including rugby balls, training cones, training bibs and water bottles.

Alda Forbes, community relations manager for Infinis said: “It is great to see the Glenkerie Wind Farm Community Fund supporting the sporting ambitions of youngsters in the area. The fund continues to provide valuable support for a whole raft of local projects and groups and even a relatively small grant can have a huge impact upon the community.” Nigel Pacey, of Biggar Rugby Football Club, said “This is a great help to the club. Without such support we would not have such a successful and thriving youth section.

“We are investing heavily in improving our facilities, which will be of benefit to all our younger players and this additional funding ensures that we can keep them supplied with training kit so they can continue to develop their skills and enjoy participating in both our own and other tournaments and competitions” Launched in 2014, Infinis Glenkerie Wind Farm Community Fund supports groups and small charities within a 15 km radius of the Glenkerie Wind Farm, which includes parts of Scottish Borders and South Lanarkshire.

A funding pot of at least £57,200 per year (rising in line with inflation) is available for the operating life of the Glenkerie Wind Farm, expected to be 25 years. The fund has been provided by Infinis, developer and operator of the wind farm.

Decisions on grant awards are made by the Infinis Glenkerie Community Fund Panel, whose membership is drawn from the Upper Tweed Community Council and wider community. Foundation Scotland has been appointed by Infinis to administer the Community Fund.
