PEEBLESSHIRE pair Tweeddale Rovers and Linton Hotspur secured impressive Scottish Amateur Cup wins to make it into the third round.

Spurs returned from the Forthbank Stadium in Stirling with a fine 3-2 win over Beechwood Albion to make it into round three.

And Rovers attacking trio Grant Wilson, David Lindsay and Jamie Mackay all got on the scoresheet in a 3-1 win over Fife side Dysart at Kerfield Park.

Elsewhere, Gordon face a replay this weekend at Grangemouth Rovers after a 2-2 draw at Stewart Park while Melrose lost 3-2 at home to Fifers Balgonie Scotia 1896 at Netherdale.

But Greenlaw suffered a 10-1 humbling away to Lothian and Edinburgh Premier League side Musselburgh Amateurs.

In Division A, Craig Hall’s late strike rescued a point for leaders Jed Legion in a 2-2 draw with Leithen Rovers. Connor Dickson was sent off for Jed, who lead Gordon by a point having played two games more.

Stow’s title hopes took a serious dent after West Barns Star score two late goals to snatch the points on the East Lothian coast. Callum Gass scored Stow’s only goal.

Scott Duncan scored a hat-trick as Hawick Legion smashed Chirnside United 6-2, while John Quinn’s goal five minutes from time was enough for Langholm Legion to beat Hawick Waverley.

Tweedmouth Amateurs moved within five points of Division B leaders Tweeddale Rovers with a 2-1 home win over basement side Earlston Rhymers, while Kevin Strathdee scored a hat-trick for Hawick United in a 4-1 win over Ancrum.

And a Darren Simpson double helped Coldstream Amateurs to a 4-1 Berwickshire derby victory over Duns Reserves.

Despite a 1-0 defeat at CFC Bowholm in Division C, Jordan Steele is enjoying being back at his hometown club.

Steele moved back to the Royal Burgh after a spell at Stow, and scored four in a 5-2 win at Kelso Thistle the previous week. He said: “I had ankle ligament damage which kept me out for three months and the Kelso game was my first full game.

“We have a young team with some new faces and it is taking time to gel but hopefully we can put a wee run together.”

Biggar won 5-2 at Selkirk Victoria to extend their Division C lead, albeit Newtown did not have a game.

There were also wins for Hawick Legion Rovers over St Boswells and Kelso Thistle at Peebles Amateurs.
