WHEN things are going your way, things are going your way.

Tweeddale managed to transfer their domestic form onto the Scottish Cup scene and come away from a tricky tie with victory.

Fifers Dysart were a strong, good footballing side who really took the game to their hosts. But Dale stood up to everything that was thrown at them and scored two late goals.

It was far from a smash and grab, with the home side doing enough in the game to feel that they were in with a shout.

But Dysart had been on top for spells in the game, although it was fairly even on chances created.

Mark Rathie and Rhys Moffat provided the base from which their team-mates could work from.

The central defensive pair made tackles, blocks and won headers all day long, keeping the away side’s imposing strikers at bay.

They couldn’t do anything about the opening goal however. When a corner had been cleared, the ball was returned into the box and the left winger was free to head home.

The Fifers continued to do most of the pressing although they struggled to get past the back four to have an attempt on goal.

Rovers grew into the game with Jamie Mackay busy as usual. Grant Wilson had a couple of efforts from distance before he was presented with a better chance which he took with aplomb.

Dysart had attempted to start a counter, but the big striker lost out in a 50-50. The ball broke forward to Wilson who took it in his stride and dinked over the keeper.

The visitors started the second half on the front foot again, forcing a corner straight from the kick off and keeping the pressure on.

They had a glorious chance to take the lead. Bob Hall had made a good initial save but the ball broke to the forward with the goal at his mercy. He tried to hammer it when he may have been best served placing it, and the ball rattled the crossbar.

Their goal scorer almost got another when he came in off the left wing to get on the end of a cross, but Hall saved again.

Again, Tweeddale gradually came more into the game. But as time went on you felt we may be heading for a replay.

Then came a goal from nowhere. Craig Collin advanced down the left before putting a cross right on Mackay’s head. Mackay was two yards out and couldn’t miss.

Minutes later David Lindsay made it safe. Juggling a bouncing ball on the edge of the box, he transferred it on this right foot and sent a volley across the keeper into the corner.

It was not all plain sailing but Tweeddale dug in to grind out their ninth win from nine games this season, and book a place in the third round of the Scottish Amateur Cup. The draw was due to be made on Wednesday, and the tie will be played on Saturday October 31.

Meanwhile, it’s a return to league action this weekend when we play host to Ancrum, with a 2pm kick off.
