THE Sware on the edge of Peebles was the venue for the East District Cross Country Relays on Sunday 11 October. Dry conditions overhead and firm conditions underfoot brought smiles to the hundreds of athletes taking part.
First race up saw young female athletes take to the hill. Edinburgh AC built a significant lead over the first two legs however Lasswade AC's Lauren Dickson clawed it back only to pipped in a sprint finish. Without doubt the most exciting finish of the day.
Next up was the young male athletes won by a Corstorphine team made up of three Addison brothers. Again Lasswade AC finished second.
The adult relays were once again dominated by Central AC taking both the men's and women's titles
Although organised by Moorfoot Runners there were no local teams however there was no shortage of local athletes taking part. Lasswade athletes included Hannah Little, part of the Silver winning Team, Ailsa Innes, Euan Hood and NIamh Shaw all of whom performed well.
Sophie Collins (Edinburgh University) and Sue Ridley (Edinburgh AC) also successfully negotiated the course in the Ladies race.
Organisers would like to thank Edderston Livery Yards, Peebles High School , Moorfoot Runners and all the marshals for ensuring the continued success of this event.
