WEST Linton Curling Club celebrated its 175th Anniversary on Saturday with a Bonspiel and Anniversary Dinner.

Rinks from Broughton, Newlands, RBS, Eddleston, Peebles, Penicuik & Pentlands all marked the milestone by joining the ancient club for a Bonspiel at Murrayfield Curling Rink on Saturday afternoon.

A celebration cake was cut by Kate Dykes, who along with her husband John have been long standing members of the club.

The ceremonial first stone was thrown by Jimmy Brown, the club's Honorary President.

The afternoon’s curling was played in a friendly spirit, which is a testament to the length of time the game of curling has been played and enjoyed in Scotland.

But there has to be a winner and the winning rink was from the Newlands Club.

The curlers and guests reconvened at West Linton Golf Club to enjoy an evening of good food and good company.

The club President, Jon Parrott, welcomed guests and past and present club members to the anniversary diner.

The history of the club was told by Alister Lambie who had researched the club’s minutes and records to provide everyone which a vivid insight into the club’s past.

Hugh Murray wrote and recited a wonderful poem in Scots tongue called West Linton Curling Club 1841.

The special guests for the evening were Colin and Carol Kilpatrick.

Carol kindly presented the prizewinners with a suitable memento of the day.

West Linton Curling Club also welcomed David and Frances Henderson, who are both past members of the club.

David is immediate past president of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club and proposed a toast to the continuing success of West Linton Curling Club. Neil Calvert rounded off the evening with a vote of thanks to all who had made the day so memorable.
