PEEBLES travel to Marr this weekend, knowing they will have to conquer their away day blues to ensure Division 1 survival.

At home, they are a force to be reckoned with. The Pees have recorded six victories from eight at the Gytes since October, their latest being a thrilling 30-17 victory against Musselburgh last weekend. Their home form would be the envy of many, and is better even than high-flying Dundee in 4th place.

Away from home, it is a different story. They have lost all of their nine games on the road in 2015/16, giving them the worst away record in the league.

Peebles captain Donald Anderson knows the importance of reversing that trend, with two crucial away games against Marr and Edinburgh Academicals back-to back concluding this year's campaign.

He said: “We've spoken about this as a team, and we aren't quite sure why there is such a big discrepancy between our home form and our away form. In years gone by, we have actually been better away from home than we have at home. We don't prepare any differently, and though we do enjoy playing in front our own supporters, it is not as if the way we play is only suited to the Gytes.

“After a difficult start, we probably have more of a positive association with the Gytes now. So that helps. If we had won away from home earlier in the season, we might have picked up one or two more victories. But we still have time to put that right.”

Saturday's hosts are currently second in the league and have been up towards the top end of the table for the bulk of the campaign. But it was the win against Marr back in October that kick-started the Pee's season, and Anderson is confident his side can come up trumps again.

“Marr are a good team, there is no questing of that. But we know we can beat them. We were the first side to beat them in the league this season, and it would be great to get our first away win against them too.

“Based on the last time we went through there and having seen a few of their games, we know they start very quickly. We have just got to try and weather the storm initially and then just stick to how we want to play and see if it is good enough to see them off.”

The Pees have been roared on by a vocal travelling support for most of the campaign, and though the numbers might be down somewhat with Scotland travelling to Ireland in the Six Nations on Saturday, Anderson is determined to give those who do make the journey something to celebrate.

“Our support has been phenomenal this season, home and way,” he said.

"It does make a difference to us. We are kicking off in plenty of time to watch the Ireland game, but for those travelling up to see us it will be more difficult. With the international being in Ireland, I know some of our support will be travelling over there and a few of our members are heading over too.

“But for those travelling to Marr, we hope to give them something to shout about. We are going up there to win, that is always the aim. But even a point or two would be massive for us at this stage of the season.”
