Edinburgh Accies 45

Peebles 29

Allan Beveridge at Raeburn Place

IT was hard to take.

Score five tries against a good city side yet still loose and get relegated.

This was a game that Peebles had to get something from and it looked good early on.

A Corey Togia try after two minutes, mins converted by Greg Raeburn, gave the Pees a 7-0 lead.

After 26 minutes things were looking even better with Kieran Brown barging over for a try.

Things were going very well but the bus load of spectators who travelled to Raeburn Place for this important game were always wary of this strong city outfit, who were several places above Peebles in the league.

It was the Accies who scored next when winger Evans crossed the Peebles line and went on to convert his try.

But Peebles extended their lead almost immediately when Ross Brown crossed for the visitors' third try. Raeburn hit the post with the conversion.

Just on half time the city scrum half darted over to reduce the deficit. Peebles were penalised at the scrum five metres from their line. Alex Glashan took the ball quickly and before the Peebles organise themselves he dived over for a try.

Did the ball leave his hands was the question several asked the referee, but the try was awarded and Evans landed the conversion

There was further bad news on the half-time tannoy fellow relegation strugglers Aberdeen were beating Jedforest and GHA were in front at Musselburgh.

Not long into the second period Accies went ahead through prop McGrath who crashed over from short range.

And for the first time in the game Peebles were behind at 21-17.

McGrath scored his second try just five minutes later and from a similar distance.

Peebles got their bonus point fourth try a short time later when the forwards drove a tap penalty.

Raeburn hit the crossbar with the conversion.

Before the end of this game Peebles scored again through the forwards and were within another losing bonus point before the city side scored late to take that bonus point away.

At the end of the day with Aberdeen and GHA both getting bonus point wins the Peebles result was immaterial.

And it will be National League Two next year.

Peebles are a very young side and it is hoped that they will stay together and fight to come right back up next season.

It was never this one game which resulted in the drop. The Peebles form early in the season was poor.

Since New Year the Gytes men have played some good rugby.
