FORMER Gala Fairydean and Selkirk striker Chris Anderson has been appointed as the new Vale of Leithen manager.

The 29-year-old from Peebles, who has also played with Dunfermline and Berwick Rangers, agreed terms with the Victoria Park club last week.

But his official appointment was put off until he helped Spartans win the East of Scotland League Cup on Sunday.

Vale parted company with former manager Micky Lawson following a run of poor results last month.

Anderson is relishing the opportunity to step into the manager's seat.

Chris told us: "It’s something I’ve thought about for a while and when the opportunity came I felt it was the right time to go into management.

“I’ve played for Spartans in the Lowland League and know how competitive it is.

There will be mistakes along the way but it will be a learning curve and I’m looking forward to the challenge."

Anderson will be assisted at the Lowland League club by his former Spartans team-mate and current Vale player, Keith Mcleod.

Chris added: “Keith will still play for another couple of seasons – he’s done a lot at this level of football and I’m delighted he will be part of this.

“Together we are hoping to do well and bring some success to Vale of Leithen."
