YOU may be forgiven for having thought that a new film-shooting of Close Encounters of the Third Kind was taking place at West Linton earlier this month.

But the sudden brightness on the evening of April 19 at 8.45pm was nothing more than West Linton Tennis Club enjoying a mini-celebration around the final installation of the new floodlights on all three courts.

The lights were turned on by Natasha Banner and Fred Walker.

With support from Sportscotland and Clubsport Tweeddale, the club has managed to increase the availability of the courts during evenings where darkness comes early, and now looks forward to supporting even more tennis being played in the village.

A more formal "lights-on" event for members and the community will be announced shortly.
