PEEBLES athletes dominated on Sunday at the the Muckle Toon Adventure Festival trail half marathon.

Craig Mattocks and his wife, Kate Jenkins, took the honours in the men's and women's races.

The Peebles couple, who run for Gala Harriers, led from the start.

And Moorfoot Colin Williams had to settle for the runners-up spot, yet again.

There was a strong field this year with entries drawn from across that Borders, Dumfriesshire, Annandale, Cumbria and Lancashire.

The trail race is a long and tough with almost 2,000 feet of climbing in total over the 13 miles and the biggest climb up to the obelisk on Whita Hill coming in the first two miles, which really spreads out the field.

Craig set the pace from the off and lead from start to finish to win by some margin in 1.30.40.

It was a different story for Colin who slowly worked through the field over the length of course and only managed to catch third place in the last mile and a half to finish in 1.35.22, knocking more than three minutes of his time from the previous year.

Kate won in 1.45.43, finishing four minutes ahead of the second woman.
