TWO years ago local school girl Emma Raeburn was playing netball in her Kingsland Primary School playground.

Selected for Peebles Netball at age 12, the tall goal shooter has gone from strength to strength, playing for Peebles Netball U15s last season in addition to Borders District U15s.

Emma was overlooked last season by selectors for the East of Scotland Development Centre squad, but had another chance for recognition when entered into the Scotland U17 trials as a wildcard by Peebles coach Linda Nicholson.

The 14-year-old Peebles High School pupil grabbed this opportunity and impressed so much she was called back for Under 21 trials last weekend following which she was selected for this season’s long squad.

Coach Linda told us: "This is a huge opportunity for Emma to develop.

"Despite her young age she is very determined and will work very hard to maintain her place in the Under 21 squad.

"We are all delighted that another player at Peebles Netball has been recognised at national level."
