WEST LINTON athlete Chris O'Hare has vowed he'll be back despite an agonizing exit from the Olympics.

The 25-year-old former Peebles High pupil had confidently qualified from his 1500 metres heat earlier in the week.

But, despite putting himself in a great position on the final bend, the European bronze medalist faded badly in the home straight of his semi-final in the early hours of this morning.

It was a distraught former Scottish champion who crossed the Rio finishing line.

But just an hour after his disappointment Chris, who is due to become a father later this year, vowed to return to the track - and he also paid tribute to his family and friends.

He said: "I will be back, more committed and determined than ever before.

"Gutted to miss out on the Olympic final tonight. The continued support from everyone has been absolutely fantastic. I only wish I could have given you more.

"Special thanks to my family for always being there for me when I need you the most."
