WEST Linton’s Bowling Club held their last three finals of the season on Sunday.

The Gents Handicap was played between Peter Martin and Tom Robertson.

Peter started well with three good shots but Tom kept up and it was a close game when the score reached 14 to Tom with Peter at 12.

But the runner-up in the Gents Championship bowled well to reach 19 to 15 and then finished the match with 21 shots to Peter’s 15.

The Ladies Handicap was contested by Rene Martin and May Sinclair.

Another very close game with Rene at 11 to May’s 9.

Both ladies favoured the long jack but Rene took best advantage of it and pulled ahead 15 to 9. May pulled back to reach 14 shots against Rene’s 17. Rene continued to bowl very well and won the match 21 shots to 14.

The coveted Holyrood Quaich was being played for by the same two pair finalists as last year. The current holders of this trophy, Mike Devenney and Dougie Taylor against last year’s runners-up, Adrian Cottam and Pat McKenzie. Current Gents Champion, Dougie Taylor and, many times, past Gents Champion Mike Devenney showed their skill by forging ahead to 14 shots to 2.

This is a two bowl game so 21 ends were played resulting in a victorious score of 22 shots to 6.

President, Charlie Smith, made the presentations and congratulated the winners.

He thanked everyone who came to support the players, the ladies for the excellent catering and Willie Bruce for running all the club competitions throughout the season.
