EAST Kilbride came from behind against Vale of Leithen to equal the world record for consecutive wins.

Martin Lauchlan’s side chalked up their 26th straight victory to match the achievement by Ajax in 1972.

Although the Guiness World Records have refused to recognise the run which began in March, the Kilby manager was still delighted.

Lauchlan said: “You can’t take it away from the players for what they have achieved.

“Whatever level of football you play at, putting a run like this together is a great achievement.

“Today’s game was difficult as Vale made us work hard and we required two late goals for the points.”

Kieran Gibbons fired the home team in front but strikes from Blair Atkinson and Jay Stevens gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage at the break.

Ross McNeil levelled before East Kilbride finally got their noses back in front on 85 minutes through a Sean Winter penalty, which also saw Vale’s Robbie Manson red carded.

Martin McBride made it 4-2 just a minute later.

Spartans fired nine past last week’s Scottish Cup shock troops, Hawick Royal Albert.

Jack Hay netted four for Dougie Samuel’s team in the 9-1 rout.

Igor Gabiola, Jamie Dishington, Scott Maxwell, Dan Ward and Craig Johnston were also on target.

James McPartlin scored Hawick’s consolation on the hour.

Edinburgh University edged away from the relegation zone with a 3-2 win over fellow strugglers Selkirk.

Jack Guthrie’s double and a strike from Bruce Scott was enough to earn the points.

Scott Ritchie and Garry O’Connor scored the home team’s goals.

BSC Glasgow climbed the table with a 5-1 thumping of Whitehill Welfare at Fergusson Park.

Aidan Ferris and Rico Corneri both scored doubles for Broomhill with Ryan Homes also on target.

Civil Service Strollers saw off the challenge from Dalbeattie Star with a comfortable 4-2 win.

Russell McLean scored a second half double to ad to David Churchill and Stephen Froud’s first half strikes.

Joe Slattery and Tommy Muir netted Star’s consolations.
