OFFICIALS from Ajax were at K Park on Saturday to present East Kilbride with 27 crates of beer and a trophy to mark the Lowland League leaders chalking up their 27th consecutive victory.

Martin Lauchlin's team stretched their winning run to 27 games with a 3-1 victory over BSC Glasgow, and beat Ajax’s 1972 record.

Declan Hughes netted a double and Ross McNeil was also on target at K Park.

There were jubilant scenes at the final whistle with a video message relayed to the players from former Ajax keeper Edwin Van Der Sar.

Elsewhere, a last minute strike from Connor Greene keeps East Stirlingshire in second place with a 2-1 win over Dalbeattie Star.

Star’s James Batty had cancelled out Shire’s opener from an Andy Rodgers penalty.

Former St Johnstone striker Stuart Noble scored a late winner as Gala Fairydean Rovers edged out Spartans 3-2 at Netherdale.

Sean Palizcka and Darren Smith fired the home team into a 2-0 lead before Scott Maxwell and Jack Hay responded for Dougie Samuels’ team.

Gala manager Steven Noble said: “Spartans came here on the back of some big wins but we played really well and took our chances when they came.”

Veteran striker Keith Mcleod fired Vale of Leithen up to fifth with a brace against Gretna.

Blair Atkinson was also on target at Victoria Park in the 3-1 win.

Vale boss Chris Anderson said: “It was important to pick ourselves up after the disappointment at East Kilbride last week.

“Gretna are an improving team and we were made to work hard for today’s win.”

Rob McCartney netted the Gretna consolation.

Whitehill Welfare returned to winning ways with a 4-2 victory over Stirling University.

Michael Osbourne’s double was added to by Scott Gormley and Charlie Denton.

Paul Byrne and Lewis Bonar scored for Stirling.

Russell McLean scored a hat-trick as Civil Service Strollers thumped struggling Selkirk 5-2 at Christie Gillies Park.

Joe Dingwall and Chris Milligan also beat French keeper Eric Tshibango to help Alex Cunningham’s team climb the table.

Phil Addison and Scott Richie scored Selkirk’s goals.

A Bruce Scott hat-trick for Edinburgh University keeps Preston Athletic rooted to the bottom of the table.

The 3-0 victory lifts the students up to eighth.
