Dunbar Athletic 0

Tweeddale Rovers 4

A CONVINCING win over Lothian and Edinburgh amateur side Dunbar Athletic last Saturday saw Tweeddale Rovers ease into the second round of the South of Scotland Cup.

They were in control throughout and first half goals from Simon Warren and Naz Mcdonald were added to by Blair Moffat and Craig Collin in the second.

They set the tone early and could have been in front straight from the kick off when Blair Meikle played in Collin on the left but his shot was wayward.

Bob Hall got his usual outing in a cup game and was largely inactive, although Dunbar did go close when a shot smacked off the post, but Tweeddale were soon back on the front foot.

Several attacks led to nothing with the ball not really falling for forwards Meikle and Stuart Mullins.

But Simon Warren’s free kick broke the deadlock – it appeared to be heading in anyway but a deflection off the wall wrong footed the keeper.

Mcdonald got his first goal for the club since joining from Peebles Rovers. Meikle brought the ball inside from Sean Johnson’s throw in and Mcdonald beat the keeper at his near post.

Wingers Collin and Mcdonald were heavily involved and further chances were spurned before a lull towards the end of the first half.

Mcdonald thought he had his second when he rampaged through the middle unchallenged but his low shot took a touch off the keeper before spinning away from goal.

A header from Blair Moffat brought the third goal after Collin had put a cross right on his head, and the little winger got a goal of his own after being slipped in by Meikle.

Meikle wasted a perfect chance to make it five when Mcdonald was pulled over in the box, but he crashed the penalty kick off the crossbar.

Tweeddale took the opportunity to give gave time to substitutes Jamie Pincott, Cieran Hart, Jake Smith and Ryan Gray and all four showed up well.

Both teams finished up with ten man after a flashpoint towards the end.

A Dunbar player was given a straight red for a dangerous tackle on Blair Meikle, and Meikle suffered the same fate for his retaliation.

Tweeddale: Hall, Johnson, Thomson (Pincott), B.Moffat, Macleod (Gray), Mcdonald (Smith), R.Meikle, Warren, Collin, B.Meikle, Mullins (Hart).
