SOME of the fittest people in Peebles have been enjoying some richly deserved birthday cake.

Peebles Triathlon Club celebrated its first birthday last week.

And in those heart-pumping 12 months the club has managed to attract around 50 members.

Ian Cross, chairman of Peebles Triathlon Club, told us: "Thanks to the success of the Brownlee brothers in Rio and their emotional show of brotherly love at the world triathlon championships in Mexico last year, triathlon has became one the fastest growing sports in the UK, and Peebles is no exception.

"Peebles Triathlon Club was founded in February last year after a few local triathletes decided to form a club to deliver coaching and activities relating to the sport.

"Our ethos is to be friendly and inclusive to all people competing at all levels from Iron Man to complete novices wanting to get into the sport."

Peebles is now an affiliated club with Triathlon Scotland.

They meet at Peebles Swimming Pool every Monday at 7pm for a coached run and swim session.

There are also addition runs and bike rides arranged throughout the week.

Ian added: "We offer group runs, cycles and swims including open water swimming in the summer."
