ANGRY Chris Anderson warned his players if there are any repeat performances of Saturday’s drubbing by BSC they won’t be pulling on a Vale shirt next season.

The furious manager hit out after watching his team squander chance after chance and fail to defend with any purpose during a dismal 90 minutes.

Anderson told us: “That simply isn’t good enough.

“If any of the players think they can just turn up and play out the season like that they won’t be here next season.

“We have high standards at the Vale and we have been playing well, but that was way below the standard we expect.”

BSC stormed into an early lead after Aidan Ferris steered a Blair Lyons cut back into the net after only 90 seconds.

Vale did respond with Sean Stewart and Blair Atkinson both having shots blocked in front of goal.

The energy and passing of new signing Ryan Currie made sure the home team were on the front foot.

But they were almost caught on the counter attack on the half hour as only a desperate lunge from Steven Lynch prevented Lyons scoring from inside the area.

A second goal did come just two minutes later as Riccardo Corrieri found enough room inside the area to smash the ball beyond Andy McQueen.

Atkinson and Keith McLeod fired inches wide at the other end before the break.

The uphill task for Vale steepened further as the Glasgow side increased their lead on 50 minutes.

Lyons took full advantage of some poor defending to slot a low shot into the far corner.

Anderson tampered with personnel and formation in a bid to get back into the match – and for a brief time it worked.

Jason Stevens pulled a goal back on 55 minutes from close range.

And only a remarkable save from Stephen Barr kept a powerful Stevens header out of the net on the hour.

McLeod had been denied by two blocks in front of goal just a couple of minutes earlier.

But Vale still looked shaky at the back and Ferris put the game to bed with a double in the space of seven minutes.

Not even Stevens’ 25-yard screamer to make it 5-2 could lift spirits in the home ranks.

And worse was to come when Ferris was flagged for offside on 85 minutes.

The referee hadn’t whistled but McQueen passed the ball out expecting the freekick to be taken only for the same striker to intercept and pass to Lyons to score his second. It was a bizarre mistake which summed up Vale’s day.

There was still time for Lyons to hit the post in stoppage time from the penalty spot.
