ST BOSWELLS claimed the Division C title following a midweek 4-1 win over Kelso Amateurs.

It has been a remarkable turnaround for Martin Muir's team after they finished bottom last season with only eight points.

A delighted Muir told us: "It has been great to achieve this in my first season in charge - we have a lot of players who have stuck with the team through some very tough spells and this will go a long way to repaying their efforts over the years.

"I would like to thank all the players, new and old, sponsors and club chairman Dougie Hume who created this team and does so much work in the background that goes unnoticed. The club and its success couldn’t have been possible without him.”

Earlston Rhymers survived relegation for the second successive season on a dramatic final day in Division B.

Rhymers faced league champions Hawick United, knowing failure to win, coupled with a Gala Hotspur victory over Biggar United, would see them relegated.

But Earlston, who just avoided demotion to Division C last season, won 2-1 as player/manager Craig Bell and Stevie Kinghorn found the net. Ross Scott scored for United.

Rhymers striker Scott Hunter said: “We know we are a better team than we have shown this season, and we showed plenty character to beat the league champions to remain in Division B.”

In the end, it did not matter as Gala Hotspur lost 3-1 at Biggar, with Stewart Robertson scoring Spurs’ only goal.

At the other end, Newtown sealed an impressive second successive promotion as they thumped Linton Hotspur 6-0.

Tweedmouth Amateurs were relegated after just one season in Division A, after Aaron Whellans, Dougie Brydon and Conor Devaney gave Greenlaw a 3-1 win over the Ams.

A Dean McColm double helped Hawick Waverley inflict only a third league loss of the season on Division A champions Chirnside United as the Teries won 4-1.

And goals from Gary Hunter and Stuart Spence allowed Jed Legion to beat Tweeddale Rovers 2-0, just three days after Rovers put in a spirited showing in the South Cup semi-finals in a 2-0 defeat to Danderhall.

A Jordan Steele hat-trick took Lauder into the semi-finals of the Forsyth Cup as Kenny Donaldson’s men thumped Kelso Amateurs 7-2 at Woodside Park. Alberto Leon, Hagen Steele, Ben Gettel and Derek Stoddart also scored to set up a last four tie with Hawick United this midweek.

And Berwick Colts enjoyed a 3-1 win at CFC Bowholm which means the young side finished sixth in their debut season in Division
