Jed Legion 2

JED Legion moved to within a point of Tweeddale Rovers in the Border Amateur A Division with a 2-0 at Kerfield Park.

Tweeddale were perhaps suffering a hangover from two consecutive semi-final losses and a flat performance contributed to the defeat.

With little to play for other than fifth spot in the A Division, the game had that end of season feel to it but Jed managed to do enough with second half goals coming from Gary Hunter and Stuart Spence.

There was not much between the teams in the first half, but the best chance was missed by Blair Meikle.

Blair Moffat delivered a deep cross to the back post, and Meikle stretched to go get there but send his header over from inside the six yard box.

An improvement after the break saw Tweeddale camped in Jed’s half, and Grant Wilson fired a half volley wide.

After that pressure amounted to nothing, Legion went up the other end and won a penalty. An attempted cross stuck an unaware Moffat on the hand and the referee pointed to the spot.

Hunter stepped up to send Ryan Bertam the wrong way from the spot.

Spurred on by that, they pushed on and added another when Spence was played through and got a clear run at goal before finishing well.

Jed remained solid defensively and worked hard to maintain their lead. However, one encouraging moment for Tweeddale was the introduction of Rhys Moffat as a substitute.

It was Moffat’s first appearance since February 2016 and he will be a welcome addition to the squad for next season.
