Semi-final
Borders 7-10 Glasgow A
BORDERS Under 15 netball team took to the court at Perth last weekend for their final inter-district championships.
Having seen their older counterparts, the U17s, reach the semi-finals the previous weekend, but be beaten by one goal in the closing seconds, Borders U15s set out to go one better to challenge for their title.
However, once again, despite magnificent performances in the pool stage, seeing off strong opposition from five districts, and losing only one match (to the eventual winners) due to a run of unforced Borders errors, Borders could not secure the win against Glasgow A in the semi-final.
Borders looked strong, and had plenty of partisan support from other Districts, but did not produce the consistently accurate shooting required at this level.
Despite multiple shots at goal by both teams, the score remained at three apiece at half time. However, in the second half, Glasgow capitalised on missed goal opportunities by Borders with several turnovers resulting in a sneaked three goal win at the whistle.
Border netball squads finish their season on a high, knowing that of over 20 netball districts in Scotland, Borders and Glasgow A are the only ones to have reached at least the semi-final stage in all four national championships at U15 and U17 age groups, a fantastic achievement for a rural area.
Trials for next season's District squads, for those born in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, will be on Sunday, May 28 from 10am to 2pm at Peebles High school.
