Peebles Rockets 32

Paisley 21

PEEBLES Rockets fired themselves into the finals of the Scottish Youth Cup last weekend with a magnificent win away against Paisley.

The Under 13s become the latest in a line of Peebles Netball teams making their way through the tough matches of the Scottish Youth Cup against the best in the country, to reach finals day.

Peebles Netball is the only netball club in Scotland to have representation in the finals every year since 2006, when the club was established.

Less than a year ago these girls were playing in their primary school playgrounds.

Last weekend the youngsters faced up to one of the hardest challenges – playing away in one of the hotspots for netball – and a history of semi-final battles between the two clubs.

A sticky start for Peebles with a very physical first quarter saw Peebles up by two goals, but tears which needed turning into positive attitude to take back on court.

And the youngsters showed that they could step up, with a more determined approach enabling them to take control, increase the lead and show clean and skilful moves to win possession and play their own style of game.

The 11 goal win was outstanding, a team effort with all players taking to the court, and rewarded with a place in this year’s finals on June 3 at the Oriam in Edinburgh, where their opposition will be Perth and Kinross.

Peebles Rockets are supported with kit and equipment by Clubsport Tweeddale.
