IT is one of Peeblesshire's greatest sporting success stories.

Over the past decade Peebles Netball has established itself as one of the leading clubs in Scotland.

On Saturday evening the club's continued success both locally and nationally was there for everyone to see at the 11th annual awards evening.

The club's sponsors - Stobo Castle, Clubsport Tweeddale, PH2O Plumbing, Rogersons, Brown and Out, Caldwell's Homemade Icecream, Scott Motors - were all on hand to present the silverware and certificates.

Linda Nicholson, who founded the club and has continued as head coach over the past 11 years, told us: "Our annual awards night was packed out with junior and adult players, parents, supporters and sponsors.

"The event marks the 11th year of Peebles Netball and we looked back on all our efforts during the year, all of our successes and thank our sponsors for their continued support."

Jan Todd, from Caldwell's Homemade Ice Cream, presented the trophy to the winner of the annual derby between S3 and S2. The successful S3 team were represented by Molly Falconer, Emma Raeburn, and Emma Saxon.

Murray Thomson, who runs Power Yoga Plus, presented certificates to Under 12s captain Carla Latto and Lucy Smith, captain of the U13s.

Pip Holt from PH20 Plumbing presenting a certificate to Sarah Wallace, the winner of the adult league Fair Play Award and captain of Storm.

And Adele Tait was honoured for her longstanding contribution to the club, having trained and played for six years.

Linda Nicholson presented Amy McTeir with an award for outstanding contribution to the club.

Amy has played for six years, has been selected for the East of Scotland Development squad, is the vice captain of the senior school team, has helped run a Primary 7 club for the last year and has umpired at various events.

Abbie Sorrell and Emma Raeburn were honoured for being selected for regional and national long squads.

And Jane Eyre brought further honour to the club by being selected for the national performance league.

Faye Nicholson's selection by Netball Scotland to umpire at the national performance league was also celebrated.

And the club's three new male netball coaches Richard Latto, Ian Mitchell and Steven Watts, were also recognised.

The winners of the most improved player awards were Rianna Sterricks (senior team), Imogen Lewis (S2), Molly Falconer (S3), and Erin Ackerman (S1).

Jenni Watts from Stobo Castle presented the Border Adult Netball League trophy to members of the winning Dragons team, Jane Eyre and Amy McLinton

And Brian Hood handed over the the Clubsport Tweeddale trophy for Club of the Year, which Peebles Seniors won last November.

There was one special award to conclude the evening with Linda being presented with her British Empire Medal, which she was awarded in the Queen's Birthday Honours list last summer.
