GALA Fairydean Rovers manager Mike Riddell praised his young side as they came from behind to claim their second win of their debut season.

Fairydean Rovers’ second team were created in the summer and have quickly found their feet with a 4-1 win over Kelso Amateurs in Division C on the back pitches at Netherdale.

Ex-Newtown striker Andrew Crawford notched a double alongside goals from Jason McIntosh and Andrew Callow.

Riddell said: “We could have panicked when we went 1-0 down but we kept playing our football and came away with a fully deserved win.

“We have a young side and I am pleased with how we have started in the Border Amateur League.”

Ancrum remain top after also coming from behind to win 4-2 at Tweeddale Rovers Colts, with Steven Drummond scoring two. Langlee Amateurs are close behind as they came home from Berwick-upon-Tweed with three points in a 5-2 win over Highfields United.

And Hawick Legion Rovers produced a battling performance to win 3-2 at Selkirk Victoria.

A David Richardson header ensured Newtown picked up their first points in Division A with a 1-0 victory at Gordon.

Manager Kenny Donaldson added: “We had a number of players back and we were good value for the win.”

Ex-Duns Amateurs player Sean Robertson scored the winner for Greenlaw in a 3-2 triumph over Tweeddale Rovers, and Jed Legion’s Sean Clarke and Kyle Finlayson both notched doubles in a 5-2 win at home to Coldstream.

Gala Hotspur’s impressive start to the season in Division B continued with a fine 7-3 win at Biggar United, Scott Nightingale leading the way with a hat-trick.

Goals from Lee ‘Skitter’ Martin, Joe Thomson, Shaun Quinn and Craig Lothian guided Earlston Rhymers to a 4-2 win over St Boswells.

Five goal Hawick Legion thumped Duns Amateurs and former Eyemouth United forward Sean Philips scored two in a 7-1 win for Tweedmouth at home to previously unbeaten Linton Hotspur.

Scott Collins bagged two as Langholm Legion won at Kelso Thistle and Lauder and Leithen Rovers shared a 5-5 draw.

In the Border Cup, Hawick United set up a quarter final at Jed Legion after beating Stow 2-1.
