FUTURE stars of the tennis court were in smashing form last week at the Tweeddale championships.

The Tweeddale Junior Tennis tournament is for young tennis players from the Broughton, West Linton, Peebles and Innerleithen clubs.

Hosting an outdoor tennis tournament late in the season in Scotland is probably asking for trouble.

Throw into the mix the fact that your host venue was in the middle of major court renovations then no-one could blame the organiser if he’d just decide to cancel the whole thing.

But Graeme Kirkpatrick is made of sterner stuff, however.

And the championships were switched from Peebles to West Linton.

While the weather over the weekend could never be described as ‘balmy’, lack of any wind and rainfall meant conditions were ideal for tennis.

The participants didn’t disappoint with some sterling displays across all the age-groups.

Special praise is reserved for the performances of 10-year-old Louis Kirkpatrick and 12-year-old Adam Clunie who both achieved significant success at their own age-level and also in the older events.
