Borders 31-02 Ayrshire

Borders 30-05 Renfrewshire B

Borders 20-09 South Lanarkshire A

Borders 15-05 Argyll & Bute

Borders 28-05 South Lanarkshire B

IT was an early, frosty start for the Borders District Under 15 netball team, comprising 10 Peebles Netball juniors, who travelled to Linwood on Sunday.

Scheduled for the opening match in this, the second of three play days, in which all south of Scotland Districts play each other, Borders players quickly got down to business.

Five matches in seven hours is a tall order, but the increased fitness regime this year, introduced by Linda Nicholson, the Borders head coach, proved its worth, as Borders dominated game after game, against the toughest of squads.

With two play days now completed, the Borders lead the table amongst the south squads, having already seen off the likes of Glasgow A and B in the opening day.

Nine wins from nine is an impressive achievement, and stands Borders in good stead going into the final play day in East Kilbride in January.

Borders U15s: Abbie Sorrell (Capt), Emma Latto (Vice Capt), Hannah Little, Eleanor Smith, Jess Mitchell, Emily Wilson, Nairne Wells, Cerys Finn, Ruby Finn, Imogen Smith.

Peebles S1 Rockets 22

Albyn School S1 04

Now into the knock-out stages of the Scottish Schools’ Cup and Peebles school teams are heavily involved in the negotiations of staging matches the length and breadth of the country.

With five school teams all progressing to the gold section of the Cup through their regional qualifier round, a home tie for Peebles Rockets was welcome, particularly as they were drawn against Aberdeen’s Albyn School.

St Andrew’s Day provided the youngsters with a school holiday, and also the opportunity to invite their opponents for a mid-day match at the Gytes.

Both teams appeared well organised and drilled, but from the whistle it was clear that the Rockets were producing their finest performance to date.

Solid footwork, catching, passing and movement skills from all eight players ensured the shooters had ample opportunity to convert. And with the shooters also on fine form, the result was a foregone conclusion.

Albyn conceded the match at half time using Netball Scotland’s Fair Play rule, with the half time score taken at 22-4.

The match continued, but no further score was recorded.

The win takes Peebles Rockets through to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Schools’ Cup, in which the S1s were runners up in the final last season.

Peebles S1 Rockets: Stephanie Glasgow (Capt), Georgia Harburn (Vice Capt), Mya Davidson, Xela Russell, Daisy Ward, Christina McGorum, Carla Latto, Molly Hall.
