THIS Saturday afternoon Caberston Haugh will be the place to be as the 97th Walkerburn 7s takes place.

The historic club, which is now in its 134th year, relies heavily on it showpiece event each year to generate much needed income.

And with a bumper draw as well as predicted glorious weather it should be a day to savour on the banks of the Tweed.

This will be a fitting end to a season of rejuvenation down at the Burn with the team competing for a full year after withdrawing from the leagues the previous season.

And there will be no better way to celebrate than with a feast of rugby from some fine teams.

Haddington will be looking to defend the trophy that they deservedly won after beating a gallant Melrose Storm in the final last year.

The South have a development 7 competing, showcasing some future Borders talent, perhaps the stars of tomorrow.

Additional newcomers include Barnton and Napier University from the capital, as well as the exotically named Kaiviti BaBas, a group of ex-army veterans who will want to show some Fijian flair.

There will be lots of local interest from regulars such as Earlston, Peebles, Hawick Linden, Hawick Quins, St Boswells, Melrose and Selkirk.

While for many the highlight of the first round will be hosts Walkerburn against Gala YM.

The first tie of the afternoon, in the preliminary round between Earlston and Lasswade, kicks off at 12.45pm.

And the final is scheduled to start at around 5.45pm.

The quality of the rugby on show will only be matched by the hospitality down at Caberston Haugh where the club look forward to seeing faces old and new.
