MORE than 20 members of the Peebles Triathlon Club headed for Aviemore last weekend.

And several of them struck gold in the Cairngorm hills.

Aviemore Triathlon offers an exciting, challenging, fun, and a little bit bonkers open water swim, mountain bike and trail run race.

Both courses - the Long Hard Durty of 1500m swim, 18km bike and 9km run, or the Short Fast Durty of 750m swim, 12km bike and 5km run - suit all abilities from newcomers to experienced racers.

And both are based on the beautiful Loch Morlich and neighbouring Glenmore Forest in the heart of the spectacular Cairngorm National Park.

For many from Peebles it was their first taste of open water racing.

But they all mastered the conditions on Loch Morlich.

Peebles head coach Pippa Tanner led by example and finished second in her category.

And her training partner Lucy Husband managed to go one better by winning her category after setting a few new PBs along the way.

The Peebles club's relay team of Duncan Falconer, Mathew Horricks and Innes Mitchell rounded off the podium visits crossing the line in first.

Ian Cross from Peebles Triathlon Club told us: "I'm really proud of the club and how it's developed over the past few years.

"The ethics of the club have remained the same since day one and there is a team spirit here that have haven't witnessed at any club in the past.

"It's great to see the hard work and training being rewarded with medals."

Peebles Triathlon Club nights are on Monday at Peebles Swimming Pool - 7pm run and 8pm swim.
