Ryan finished runner-up to Cameron Tindle in the famous 110-metres handicap race last week.

The 16-year-old was only inches away from lifting the £4,000 first prize and entering the 146 year hall of fame.

Jake won the Under 13s 60 metres title on the same Musselburgh track. And followed it up with a fourth place in the final of the Youths 90 metres.

But the Peeblesshire pupils are being forced away from the starting blocks by coach Charlie Russell.

He said: “We have gone straight back into the gym following the New Year Sprint.

“The boys will return to running in the spring to prepare for the summer circuit - but no running until then.”
