Peebles' golden girls
PEEBLESSHIRE has two new Scottish champions.
Both Faye Nicholson from Peebles and West Linton's Olivia O'Hare struck gold in Glasgow at the weekend in the Scottish Athletics age-group championships.
Nicholson, who was recently fourth in the national senior championships, set a new personal best to claim the Under 20s title at Scotstoun.
The 17-year-old, who is coached by her mum Linda, reached 5.83 metres to win by an amazing 77 centimetres.
The jump also takes the teenager to third in the Scottish senior rankings.
Another victory for the region came in the Under 18s 800 metres.
Olivia O'Hare also set a new best - crossing the line in 2.12.7 - just outside the qualifying standard for the Commonwealth Youth Games in September on the Isle of Man.
But her victory should earn her a place in the Scotland team to compete at the Celtic Games in Antrim next weekend.
Olivia, who is coached by Dave Campbell, said: "I am delighted to win the title. I must thank the Borders Athlete Support Programme, who organised physio for me in the week leading up to the championships."
O'Hare, who is ranked number one for 800 and 1500 metres in her Scotland age-group, will head for the UK Championships later this month in Bedford.
