Moorfoots runner Darin Dougal finished the tough 10 mile race in 1:16:07, one minute three seconds behind winner Carnethy’s Graham Nash in 1:15:04 The 43-year-old from Innerleithen stopped Carnethy securing the top three positions beating the club’s next man home Iain Gilmore (1:19:13) by three minutes six seconds.

Darin said: “It was a tough race but with it being a nice day it was more bearable.” Peebles’ Kenny Whiteford ran a good race to place sixth in 1:20:17 followed 40 seconds later by Moorfoots’ Michael McGovern, also from Peebles, in seventh.

Graham Nash outlined his winning strategy and said: “I went up behind two club mates who I knew would be quicker on the descent, so I went past them a mile and a half into the climb and concentrated on being first to the top, then just blasted all the way down.” It was a top class field with Edinburgh Athletics Club’s Joanne Thom, 32, fresh from fourth overall in the previous weekend’s Glencoe Marathon the first woman home in 1:24:02.

Second woman was another Edinburgh runner Eilis McKechanie, 36, of Hunters Bogtrotters in 1:25:20 with Sarah Adam third in 1:36:14.

First junior aged 14 and under across the line was Michael Kerr from Dumfries in 28:18 with Carnethy’s Anna Young second in 47:37 and Charlotte Hutchison of Inverleith third in 47:37.

A total of 62 runners started and finished the race run in sunny breezy weather to the 2348ft Scrape summit with 2,200 ft of climbing.

Results from Manor Water are combined with the following day’s 17-mile Pentland Skyline race for a special cast 'Man or Mouse’ metal plaque.

Gala Harriers Fergus Johnston was third in the Pentland Skyline in 2:33:44 but did not compete at Manor.
