BORDERS athletes had a blast during the weekend’s East District Championships at Grangemouth.

No fewer than nine gold medals returned to the region.

And there was a further 11 silvers and eight bronzes captured by the up-and-coming talent from the Scottish Borders.

Berwickshire’s Cameron Tindle continued to show why he’s considered the most exciting prospect in Scottish sprinting for a generation as he swept aside the opposition to win the Under 20s 100 metres.

The 16-year-old, who is coached by Henry Gray, broke the tape in a record 10.78 seconds - into a headwind.

There was further success for the region in the sandpit as Selkirk’s Henry Clarkson claimed the Under 17s long jump.

The 15-year-old, who is coached by Linda Nicholson, reached 6.22 metres for the win.

But the Selkirk High pupil had to settle for silver behind Berwickshire’s Freddie Rooke in the triple jump.

The former Gala Harrier, who was celebrating his 16th birthday, won with a distance of 13.12 metres - 18 centimetres ahead of Clarkson.

Peeblesshire’s Jordan Charters won the senior long jump.

The 19-year-old former Scottish Indoor champion from Dolphinton reached 7.19 metres for victory.

Adam Leighton, who recently joined the Lasswade Club, landed the Under 13s high jump after a nervous countback.

The 12-year-old cleared a new personal best height of 1.55 metres.

And he followed up his success with bronze in the long jump competition with a distance of 4.37 metres.

On the track, Borders athletes claimed both the girls and the boys Under 13s 800 metres.

Hannah Little from West Linton broke the tape in the final with a time of 2.28.49.

And a short time later fellow West Linton athlete Michael Girder, who is coached at the Moorfoots club by Gregor Nicholson, landed the boys final with a time of 2.16.70.

Hannah also finished third in the Under 13s shot-putt.

Former Gala Harrier Rosie Browne is best known for her sprinting ability - but she’s every bit as good with a pole vault in her hand.

The 14-year-old from Berwickshire cleared 2.10 metres for gold in the Under 15s competition.

There was also a place at the top of the podium for Chirnside Chaser Keira Waddell, who won the Under 15s javelin with a distance of 24.71 metres.

Innerleithen’s Bryony Patterson returned from Grangemouth with two silver medals.

The 15-year-old, who is part of the Linda Nicholson school, finished eight centimetres down on Katie Forbes in the Under 15s long jump.

And she was just nine centimetres away from gold in the triple jump with her leap of 10.19 metres.

West Linton’s Stacey Downie also collected two silver medals.

The 25-year-old teacher finished runner-up in the senior 100 metres behind Kathryn Christie with a time of 11.86 seconds.

And she was the clear second in the senior 400 metres final behind Aberdeen’s Zoey Clark.

Cardrona’s Ellie O’Hara found one too good in both the Under 13s long jump and 70 metres hurdles.

The 12-year-old, who competes for Edinburgh AC, reached 4.40 metres in the sandpit.

Ellie also collected a bronze medal after clearing 1.25 metres in the Under 13s high jump.

Jedburgh’s Jazmine Tomlinson was runner-up in the final of the Under 20s 100 metres behind Selina Henderson with a time of 12.97 seconds.

The 17-year-old was also third in the final of the Under 20s 200 metres.

West Linton’s Dominic O’Hare was narrowly beaten in a thrilling Under 20s 1500 metres final.

The 17-year-old clocked 4.13.70 as he crossed the line a stride behind Aberdeen’s Jordan Chapman.

Patrick Swan from Chirnside also collected a runners-up place in the senior 200 metres final.

And he finished in the bronze medal position in the senior 100 metres behind Pitreavie’s Declan Brennan.

There was also a silver medal for Tweed’s Sarah Davenport in the Under 15s 800 metres with Charlotte Clare from the Moorfoots club inches further back in fourth.

Ethan Elder from Peebles continued his middle-distance progress by winning a bronze medal in the Under 13s 1500 metres.

Former age-group champion Craig Mullins from Peebles had to also settle for bronze in the Under 20s shot-putt.
