FLYING Fergus Johnston made it four from six on Sunday at the annual Philiphaugh Hill Race.

The Gala Harriers led all the way over the seven miles course outside Selkirk.

And he crossed the line at Corbie Lynn in 48.13, some two minutes ahead of runner-up Darin Dougal of the Moorfoots club.

Tom Hobbs, also from Moorfoot, finished strongly to claim third ahead of Andrew Lawrie from Gala Harriers.

Carnethy’s Charlotte Morgan regained her ladies title, that she first won in 2013, by finishing fifth overall with a time of 51.15.

Jane Lange was second woman home with Becky Mackenzie in third.

First local runner to cross the line was Kevin Fairbairn in a time of 1.01.39.

Teenager Ethan Elder produced a strong run to claim the four miles race. The Moorfoot athlete won the same race in 2013 - but was almost three minutes quicker on Sunday with a time of 25.13.

Gregor Collins from Gala Harriers finished runner up with first girl, Beth Hobbs from the Moorfoot club, claiming third.

A total of 60 runners completed the long route with 61 finishing the four miles race.

Race organiser Sheila Cochrane told us: “We are thrilled with the number of runners who supported the race yet again.

“We wouldn’t be able to hold the race each year without the kind sponsorship we receive and all the help we get from our marshalls.” The sixth Philiphaugh Hill Race raised just over £1000 for the Selkirk Play Park Project.

Sainsbury’s Local in Selkirk for supplied the goodie bags while Hunter Cabs & Minibuses donated the the medals and prizes.
