CUMBERNAULD Colts striker Andrew Selkirk was left devastated after he missed out on his hat-trick against namesake club Selkirk in a dramatic 5-3 win.

Colts frontman Selkirk bagged two first half goals and James Barclay also found the net as the Lowland League new boys raced into a 3-0 half time lead.

Garry O’Connor pulled one back for Selkirk and Florlan Moulet also found the net to make it 3-2.

But Jamie Broadfoot made it 4-2 and then Selkirk had his chance for his treble from the penalty spot, only to smash his effort against the bar.

However, Selkirk defender Murray Christie was sent off for handball from the rebound, with Michael Oliver taking over spot kick duties to score the fifth before Jack Hay scored a consolation for the hosts.

Colts co-manager Craig McKinlay said: “Andrew is gutted not to get a hat-trick but he played very well and has been on a good run of goals for us in recent weeks.

“We showed a lot of aggression and managed to score four of our goals from set pieces.” Selkirk boss Stevie Forrest said: “We were all over the place in defence but we are going to put in a lot of hard work to solve the problem.” The Lowland League’s top scorer Jack Smith scored all four goals at Vale of Leithen in a 4-1 win to move East Kilbride to the top of the table.

Vale boss Mickey Lawson said: “Smith proved too good for us and it is no surprise East Kilbride are doing so well with such a dangerous striker in their side.” Champions Edinburgh City suffered a shock defeat at Stirling University, with Chris Geddes, Paul Sludden and Paul MacCafferty finding the net for the Students in a 3-1 victory.

Spartans smashed Edinburgh University 5-0, with David Greenhill and Aaron Murrell scoring two each.

Former St Johnstone striker Stuart Noble bagged two goals as Gala Fairydean Rovers thumped Threave Rovers 4-1.

Delighted Gala manager Stevie Noble said: “It’s a big three points for us. We pushed the full backs in the second half and it paid off.” An Iain Anderson doubled helped Gretna to a 4-2 victory at BSC Glasgow, while Whitehill Welfare and Dalbeattie Star played out a goalless draw.
