Tweeddale Rovers 4

Tweedmouth Amateurs 0

TWO sides from the opposite end of the River Tweed, and the same end of the Border Amateur ‘B’ Division table met at Kerfield Park.

First place played host to second, with first running out convincing winners.

It means Tweeddale have now made it a third of the way through the league season unbeaten and have kept up their momentum.

Three first half goals made it more comfortable than had been expected, and the one in the second period could have been more.

A brace from Jamie Mackay got him back amongst the goals after a two game ‘dry spell’, Grant Wilson continued his goal a game record since returning from suspension and Ruaraidh McNaughton got the other.

Just as satisfying was a third clean sheet in a row for a back four in which Blair Moffat was particularly dominant. Ryan Bertram replaced the unavailable Bob Hall in goals but that made no difference with the door remaining firmly shut.

A car load of Tweedmouth players arrived late and that may have affected them as they struggled to get into the game.

Wilson got the ball rolling when he took advantage of a slip in the away defence. In trying to receive a pass, the big centre half fell over in the style of Steven Gerrard. Wilson took up the role of Demba Ba, gangly legs and all, to fire his side in front.

Craig Collin used his pace to scarper down the left and set up the second. McNaughton got to the cross ball before the keeper to make it two.

Dale have made a habit this season of scoring two or three goals in quick succession to kill games off.

This happened again here with Mackay getting a third. His shot from the left edge of the box gave the keeper no chance.

Young Mackay scored the goal of the game after the break to firmly put the game to bed. All on his own and at a difficult angle, he chipped the keeper with the ball landing perfectly in the corner.

The woodwork was hit on a couple of occasions towards the end as Rovers chased a fifth. Nick Rogers hit the post with a free kick and Wilson controlled a volley well only to see the keeper tip it onto the crossbar.

This was another impressive win for Tweeddale ahead of their Wright Cup semi-final clash with Duns Reserves this weekend.
