HAWICK Waverley’s Paul Hossack says there is still a long way to go in the Division A title race despite a potentially decisive 4-2 win against rivals Chirnside United.

Waverley raced into a 3-0 lead at Comrades Park thanks to goals from Taylor Hope and a Greg Ford double.

Chirnside fought back in the second half to reduce the deficit to one after Joe Condy and Daniel Pattenden found the net, but Scott Craig’s late goal sealed the win.

It leaves Hawick four points clear of Chirnside at the top, with seven games to go.

Midfielder Hossack said: “It was a brilliant result for us and we had to really work for it.

“The wind made it a battle for both teams. We stood up to the pressure in the second half and it was a real team effort that secured the points.

“It was a big win but there is still a long way to go in the title race.”

Gala Hotspur coach Fred Blackie paid tribute to opponents Leithen Rovers after their game was abandoned following Paul Young’s double leg break.

With Gala leading 1-0 through Michael Blackwood’s goal, Young suffered the horrific injury in the 25th minute which led referee Alex Laidlaw to correctly abandon the Division B match.

Blackie said: “It was a horrible incident and we wish Youngy all the best with his recovery.

“We have to thank Leithen Rovers for their help in the aftermath of the incident. Their players also came back to our sponsors Reiver’s after the game, and went to the hospital to visit Youngy.”

Jamie Henderson’s hat-trick gave Biggar United a 4-0 win at St Boswells which pulled them away from the relegation zone.

Gala Fairydean Rovers moved top of Division C with a 7-2 hammering of Hawick Legion Rovers.

Jason McIntosh, Fraser Jackson and Aidan Mckendick all scored doubles to give Gala a comfortable win.

And Jordan Nuttall bagged another hat-trick as Ancrum demolished Melrose 6-1 at Bridgend.

All other matches were called off.
