Manager French is forced out

MANAGER Gary French was sacked as manager of Peebles Football Club following a meeting at the club last Thursday.

The Whitestone Park boss took over last summer following the departure of Mark Lamb.

But the team only won one game last season in the East of Scotland Premier Division.

Despite picking up six points from their opening six games this season in the First Division officials wanted better.

Peebles chairman Colin McDonald told the Peeblesshire News: "The committee felt that the time had come for a change.

"Gary was given the opportunity to resign but he refused which left us with no option but to sack him.

"We all like Gary and can only thank him for the time and effort he has put in over the past couple of years."

French's assistant Ray McInnes will take charge of the team until the end of the season.
