TO the famous names of Ronaldo, Jan Molby, Eddie Turnbull, Willie Johnston and Paul Hartley, we must now add the, with all due respect, less celebrated one of Vale midfielder Scott Devlin.
The ex-Peebles player achieved one of football's rarest occurrences - a hat trick from the penalty spot - at Muirhouse to help the Innerleithen side to another three Premier Division points.
The first came after some sustained first half pressure on the Strollers goal in the 37th minute when Jordan Hall was brought down in the area by Tom Wyman and Devlin slotted the spot kick home to Paul Cadger's right, despite the keeper getting a hand to the ball.
Three minutes later a huge clearance from Vale keeper Mark Wilson, which seemed to pose more of a danger to passing aircraft than the Civil goal, bounced into the penalty area with Vale striker Steven Radzynski and Strollers' Ewan MacIntosh tangling with each other, the result of which was another penalty and a red card for MacIntosh.
Again Devlin stepped forward, this time smashing the ball into the centre of the net.
Two goals and a man down at half time, things weren't looking good for the Edinburgh side, and the early part of the second half did little to encourage them as the Vale onslaught continued.
In the 70th minute, the outcome was put beyond doubt as Scott Moffat ran on to a John Ferguson pass to roll the ball past Cadger.
It was now simply a case of how many more Vale would get and a third penalty was awarded when a Ferguson cross struck the hand of Wyman.
With the previous two penalties directed to the right and middle of the goal, Cadger unsurprisingly guessed left, but it was another kick straight down the middle from Devlin to complete his hat trick.
Ferguson grabbed a fifth four minutes later when a Ricky Miller ball found him running through a Civil defence notable by its absence to go one-on-one with Cadger and fire a shot into the far corner.
As a postscript; in November 1999, Paraguayan Jose Luis Chilavert also scored a hat track from the penalty spot for Argentinean club Velez Sarsfield. Chilavert is a goalkeeper. Beat that.
