PEEBLES Rovers’ boss John O’Hara this week looked forward to the second half of the season and promised: “We are going to do much better.

“With all the abandonments there’s still a long way to go and we’ve played the top team Hibs twice so I see no reason why we shouldn’t finish in the top half of the table.” It has been a struggle so far with the side in eighth place out of the 10 teams in the East of Scotland League First Division.

“We’ve brought in a lot of new players and a lot of amateurs. It takes them time to learn and settle in,” said O’Hara.

“This has been a bit of a Mickey Mouse operation for so long and many will agree the club has under-achieved. But I’d like to think we are going the right way now.” Rovers are due to play Coldstream at Whitestone Park tomorrow (Saturday), kick-off 2pm, but the fixture might be switched as the pitch - unfit for the last two scheduled games - is likely to be unsuitable again.

“It has to be a big doubt that we’ll be able to play in Peebles this weekend as we’ve had a lot more rain,” admitted O’Hara. “But I am hopeful that Coldstream will be happy with a change of ground.” Edinburgh University’s Peffermill Playing Fields and Netherdale at Galashiels are alternative venues for the game - a switch could be made as late as Friday if both teams agree.

O’Hara is confident his side can take care of Premier League outfit Coldstream. “I’m looking forward to it and will be disappointed if we don’t beat them,” he said “They have a new boss in Neil Oliver.

“I know Neil and it should be a good game as he will have them well-organised.” Elsewhere tomorrow, second top Vale of Leithen welcome third place Dalbeattie Star to Victoria Park in the Lowland League, kick-off 2pm.
