PEEBLES Rovers’ manager John O’Hara was given a vote of confidence by his bosses this week as his side bid to get on the scoresheet for the first time in almost three months.

According to development manager Bill Berry, the future of the Whitestone Park side is bright - despite a poor season.

“We are in a transitional state just now but we’ll be aiming for promotion next season, depending on the league set up,” he said.

“We know John will be with us next season. He signed a three-year contract and when his time is up we won’t keep him.

“We were delighted to get John. He’s a bright young coach - one of the best around.

“John certainly knows what to look for in a player - they need to be the right type with the right attitude.

“We are three-quarters of the way to having a good squad and John’s contacts will help us to pick up players at the right cost.” Rovers travel to Tranent tomorrow (Saturday) to take on Ormiston (ko 2.30pm) and Berry’s first wish is that they can at least find the net.

Peebles have failed to score in their last four games - conceding 16 goals in the process - and the side last hit the target back on December 14 against Duns.

“We’ve been starved of goals of late and if I could buy a goal I would,” said Berry. “I am quite hopeful as our squad is much stronger now.”
