The Ams, Peebles FC’s senior team, is displaying the SSAFA Logo on their new strips for the season ahead.

SSAFA (Sailors’, Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Families Association) is the country’s oldest military charity, providing practical help and lifelong support to anyone who has ever served in the military and their families who may have fallen on difficult times.

The move is being funded by the Alec Lucas Memorial Trust, which was set up in memory of Alec, a local Royal Marine who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2008.

New Peebles manager Andy Borthwick and his players were joined by Alec’s dad Adrian, who is chairman of SSAFA Borders, and Gerry Kelly, also from SSAFA, before their first league match at home to Selkirk Victoria on Saturday as they proudly displayed their the new kit.

Boss Borthwick said: “Having the SSAFA Logo on our shirts is really important to us and we hope that it demonstrates the regard we at Peebles FC hold for all our serving military personnel, veterans and their families.” Adrian added: “As chair of SSAFA Borders, I am delighted to see the team in their new SSAFA emblazoned Strips. We’d like to thank Andy, the players and everyone involved at Peebles FC. By establishing this link with the club, awareness of SSAFA will be further enhanced across the Borders and beyond. Raising the profile of SSAFA is vital to help ensure everyone that needs us knows how to access our services.”
