A 15th minute Jay Wilson penalty was followed by second half strikes by Des Sutherland and Shaun Hardie took Fairydean Rovers past the Berwickshire side.

In the other semi-final, West Barns caused the shock of the weekend with a dramatic 4-3 win over Leithen Rovers.

Rovers looked set to make the final after going 3-1 up, with Neil Macvicar, Davie Paterson and Alan McMath finding the net on the east coast.

However, three goals in the final ten minutes saw Star go through, with Brian Lugton completing his hat-trick with a winning goal deep in injury time.

There was another shock in the South Cup first round, as struggling Division A Chirnside United lost 4-2 at Biggar United.

Meanwhile, Gala Hotspur coach Fred Blackie has told his side to forget their 4-1 Wright Cup semi-final defeat to Eyemouth Amateurs, ahead of this weekend’s top of Division B clash.

Blackie said: “We never got into the game against Eyemouth, who were stronger and more experienced.

“We have a good, young side who are learning all the time and we need to get our heads up for the Hawick Legion game on Saturday.” In the Collie Cup final, Tweedmouth Amateurs will face Hawick Legion Rovers. Tweedmouth squeezed past Duns Reserves 5-4 on penalties, with the score after 120 minutes being 1-1, and Hawick knocked out St Boswells 3-2.

In Division A, managerless Hawick Waverley beat Ancrum 3-0 at Bridgend Park. Jason Inglis, Luke Cooper and Davis Hope scored for Waverley, who saw boss Paul Brownlee resign earlier in the week.

A Hagen Steele hat-trick helped Stow thrash Greenlaw 5-0 and move to the top of Division A.

A Grant Gass free kick and James Runciman goal also helped secure the points, while Stow keeper Tom Kerr saved a penalty.

Kerr said: “We were disappointed not to win at Ancrum, but this was a great result at Greenlaw.

“It was my first clean sheet since we played West Barns in April, and I hope I can make it two-in-a-row this weekend against the same opposition.” In Division B, Scott Collins, Ali Little and Josh Haldane scored for Langholm Legion in a 3-1 win at Coldstream Amateurs, while Hawick United thumped Chirnside United Colts 6-2 and Earlston Rhymers and Linton Hotspur drew 2-2.

Peebles Amateurs made it two Division C wins in a row with a 4-1 success at Kelso Thistle, with David Meldrum, Craig Entwistle, Scott Inglis and Stuart Mullins on target. Melrose and Lauder also notched victories to move away from the foot of the division.
