The Innerleithen side have until mid March to bring their Victoria Park ground up to the SFA Club Licensing standard.

According to league rules all clubs must have the entry level licence by the start of next season.

Vale already have a list of required improvements from last season’s failed inspection.

And chairman Jack Diamond is confident the criteria can be met.

He said: “Work has been ongoing to make sure all our paperwork is in order - constitution, liability insurance, that kind of thing has all been done.

“The physical changes to the ground will start within the next couple of weeks.

“We know what we have to do and we have the people in place to do it.” Seats, which have already been purchased, will be fitted into the current enclosure at Victoria Park with new disabled access being introduced.

The home and away dugouts will either be positioned to the side of the enclosure or moved to the opposite side of the ground.

The wire fencing which presently surrounds the pitch is being pulled down and replaced with a new barrier which meets safety standards.

And new toilets are being introduced both inside and outside of the clubrooms.

Mr Diamond added: “I think we will have everything in place for the inspection.

“If there is anything missing from the criteria we have until May to get it sorted. I’m confident we will have our licence for next season.” As part of the refurbishment work to be carried out, plans are in place to create a history wall at the back of the enclosure.

Vale of Leithen will celebrate its 125th anniversary next season and it is hoped that photographs and other memorabilia from down the decades will be displayed.

Vale manager Mark Lamb said: “We have the plans in place to have the back walled rendered with a wrap being added which will chart the club’s history.

“When people come to the ground in future they will be able to see what a fantastic history this club has.

“We also want to create a hall of fame in the tunnel with the names and photos of former players.

“It is a crucial time for Vale of Leithen and an exciting time but we need people - especially former players - to come forward and support us.” An appeal for former players to donate £25 towards the Hall of Fame was launched last week.

The SFA inspection of Victoria Park is due to take place on Thursday, March 12.
